A town house is a unit that resembles a detached home and is attached to a multi-unit complex.

The difference between an apartment and a town house is that a town house comprises multiple floors with each having its own outside door as opposed to having a single interior hallway access.

A townhouse could have many units vertically, normally two units each with a private entrance from the street. It could also be built side by side with two or more homes in a row, commonly referred to as ‘row-houses’.  Two groups of townhouses could be referred to as townhouses though in Canada and the U.S, it is known as a semi-detached or a half-duplex.
