Home Renovation Tax Credit

The Home Renovation Tax Credit (HRTC)
Part of the Canadian economic stimulus package was the creation of a home renovation tax credit. This tax credit is to promote an investment in the long term value of a home at the some time creating immediate demand for labour, building materials and other goods.

Features:

The HRTC is available for home renovation expenditures for work performed between January 27, 2009 and February 1, 2010. It can be claimed for renovations and enduring alterations to a dwelling, or the land on which it sits. This would include finishing a basement, remodelling a kitchen, painting the interior or exterior of your home, new carpet or hardwood floors, laying new sod or resurfacing a driveway. Your tax credit will be 15% of the value of eligible expenditures exceeding $1,000.00 but not more than $10,000.00 (meaning that the maximum tax credit that can be received is $1,350.00). Taxpayers can claim the credit when filing their 2009 tax return.
